SURROCOMPASS GUIDES
How to compare surrogacy agency costs
Compare itemized written quotes with the same scope. Separate the agency fee from third-party expenses, identify exclusions and repeat costs, and ask what happens to payments if your plans change. SurroCompass does not publish a universal cost estimate.
Start with the scope of the quote
Before comparing two totals, ask what each total represents. Is it an agency fee, a package of named services, or an estimated journey budget? Ask for the quote date, currency, assumptions, and how long the terms remain available.
Keep the agency's written quote alongside your notes. If something is discussed verbally, ask for written confirmation before treating it as included. The questions below are a comparison worksheet, not a prediction that every category applies to your circumstances.
Ask about each category separately
For each relevant category, record the provider, quoted amount or range, payment timing, and whether it is included in the displayed total.
- Agency coordination and matching: what work does the fee cover?
- Clinic and laboratory services: which provider supplies the estimate?
- Medication and any donor-related services: included, excluded, or not yet quoted?
- Carrier compensation and reimbursements: where are these explained?
- Insurance review and coverage-related expenses: who can explain the assumptions?
- Independent legal advice and documentation: which fees are separate?
- Counseling, travel, accommodation, and other support: which items may apply?
- Escrow or fund administration: who manages funds and what fees are charged?
Make uncertainty visible
Create a separate column for items that have not been quoted. A blank is an unanswered question, not a zero. Keep fixed amounts, estimates, and contingent expenses separate so the comparison does not imply more certainty than the quote provides.
Ask what happens if matching takes longer than expected, a planned step needs to be repeated, you change providers, or you pause the process. Have the relevant provider explain which payments could change. Ask independent legal counsel about contractual obligations before signing.
Record payment and refund terms
The timing and conditions of payments can matter as much as the headline figure. Use the same questions for every agency.
- What is due when I sign, and what event triggers later payments?
- Which amounts are refundable, under what conditions, and within what time?
- Which funds are paid to the agency and which go to other providers?
- Who holds funds, and how can I review disbursements?
- What does a quoted guarantee cover, and what exceptions apply?
Use directory prices as a starting point
SurroCompass displays a price range only when one is present in the profile. The profile's sources and review date help you check its context. The displayed figure is not a quote from SurroCompass and does not establish what your own journey would cost.
If the page says Not provided, ask the agency for current written information. When sorting by journey cost, agencies with missing minimum prices appear after those with a listed minimum. Price order is a browsing tool, not a recommendation.
