Privacy

SurroCompass helps people explore surrogacy agencies. Your interest in surrogacy can be sensitive. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy policy describes that information separately.

What we collect and why

To create and secure your account, we use your verified email, sign-in codes, and session cookies. We store the agencies you save, comparison choices, and search preferences so you can return to them. Browsing the directory does not require an account.

After email verification, an optional profile form asks for first name, last name, and an optional US phone number. Your verified account email is shown without asking you to enter it again. Older onboarding profiles may also contain a preferred name, state or territory, research stage, and timeline until replaced, deleted, or expired. It also records your confirmation of adult US residence and your permission choices. We collect submitted answers only after you allow us to store and use them for your profile and to support your search. Skipping does not save the answers you typed.

SurroCompass marketing email permission is separate and optional. Signing up or saving an agency does not subscribe you. You can separately opt in to sharing your contact profile with surrogacy agencies you save to your shortlist, now and in the future, for email contact about their services. This choice starts off. While it is on, new or re-added favorites are included; removing a favorite stops future sharing with that agency. This permission does not authorize calls or texts. Email updates and agency introductions have not started yet. The older agency phone-call settings are separate; onboarding neither grants nor changes phone-call permissions.

Who can access it

Authorized SurroCompass administrators can view submitted onboarding profiles and your separate email choices. With your separate profile-sharing permission, the intended recipients are surrogacy agencies in your shortlist, and the purpose is for them to email you about their services. The information covered is your first and last name, verified email address, phone number if provided, and interest in surrogacy. Phone numbers are not verified. Older search answers, other favorites, and search history are excluded. Older named-agency email-only permissions remain limited to their original scope and are replaced when you save the new form; they never become profile-sharing permission automatically.

Introductions have not started: this release saves your choices and does not deliver contact details to agencies. This permission does not authorize a sale of your information. Onboarding information is excluded from sponsor reports and AI services.

Cloudflare processes the email address and message required to deliver sign-in codes. Hosting and backup storage support operation of the service. We do not send onboarding answers to the email provider. AI and search providers used for agency research do not receive your onboarding answers through this feature. Agency outreach and payments are disabled.

Measurement and cookies

We use a session cookie for sign-in. Anonymous directory measurements count sponsored card views, profile visits, and website clicks without attaching your account, email, shortlist, or search text. Acquisition totals count current verified accounts and onboarding states; no advertising pixels or cross-site tracking are added by onboarding.

Retention and your controls

Contact profiles, older onboarding answers, agency-sharing permissions and their identifiable consent history are removed from active storage when you delete them or 12 months after your last confirmation. A deletion also withdraws SurroCompass email permission. Backup cleanup runs regularly and is scheduled to sanitize affected retained copies within 30 days; recovery uses a separate privacy journal to prevent deleted profiles or withdrawn permissions from reappearing. That journal retains a keyed fingerprint and action information, not readable email addresses or form answers.

Routine database backups are retained for 14 days. Manual recovery backups may last longer but are included in onboarding cleanup. Your account, saved choices, and separate phone-call permissions are not deleted by the onboarding deletion control; they are distinct records.

In Account, you can view and edit onboarding information and sharing permissions, unsubscribe from SurroCompass emails, stop future agency sharing, or delete onboarding information and withdraw collection permission. Profile sharing covers only agencies currently in your shortlist while your sharing choice is on. Turning sharing off prevents later shortlist changes from restoring it. Older named-agency email-only permissions are withdrawn on removal and are not restored on re-adding. Agency sharing and SurroCompass updates can each be withdrawn independently. Signing in verifies ownership before these actions. These choices do not remove access to your account.

Changes

We record the notice shown when you submit your choices. New purposes or expanded sharing require a new explanation and permission where required; earlier choices are not treated as permission for additional uses.
